"The conservation of built heritage is implemented by the project of restoration, including the strategy to conserve in the long run. This restoration project should be based on a range of appropriate technical options and prepared in a cognitive process of gathering knowledge and understanding of the building or site. This process may include traditional and subsequent new materials, structural investigations, graphical and dimensional analysis and the identification of historical, artistic and socio-cultural significance."
This is a paragraph of the Charter of Cracow 2000, where we can find the current principles for the built heritage conservation and restoration. Actually, any restoring intervention on architectonic and archaeological heritage requires a documented and rigorous current-state surveying. In this sense the digital close-range photogrammetry system developed by metria allows to obtain accurate measurements and a faithful and detailed graphical representation of historical, singular and monumental builgings and sites, departing only from digital photography.
Itīs a very accurate and versatile measurement system that uses manageable equipment and eliminates most of the restrictions that traditional photogrammetry presents, making it very agile. It allows using any type of non-metric camera and lacks direct physical contact minimizing the interference with the element and its surroundings. It is not necessary either the use of a tripod during the photography taking.
